 FACINE 25 ANNOUNCES WINNERS IN THREE COMPETITION CATEGORIES: CINE/SURI: Critical Essay Writing on Filipino Cinema; Short and Feature-Length Films

On its 25th year/Silver anniversary, the Filipino Arts & Cinema International or FACINE, aside from its annual juried competition in both short and full-length films, launched the first-ever cineSuri: Critical Essay Writing Competition on Filipino Cinema; and On-line Viewer's Choice Competition for participating short films. The first initiative aims to promote critical writing on Filipino cinema, hopefully build on film scholarship; and the second, the afford wider access to Filipino short films worldwide.
Later last month, at the close of the festival, FACINE 25 announced the winners in the Main Competition. Irene Emma Villamor's MEET ME IN ST GALLEN swept nine of eleven competition categories including Best Film, Direction and Writing. (The winners will be mentioned at the latter part of this post.)
In the short film competition, tougher because of the sheer number of finalists (39 in all), the following are declared winners and runners-up.
Best Short Film:

The best short film will be given $100 cash prize from PAWA; all runners-up and Viewer's Choice award will be handed certificates of recognition.

cineSuri Essay Writing Competition, there are separate categories for professional and amateur practitioners of criticism.

Ramon Alberto Garilao: National Film Museum: Establishing an Accessible Cinematic Heritage Repository in the Philippines
The winners will be given cash awards - $200 for Professional, $100 for Amateur; all entries will be awarded certificates and will be published in an anthology of critical writings. Cash awards and publication are with the support of PAWA and the Manuel Flores Prize Fund.
Jury members: Dr. Michael Gonzales, historian, anthropologist, teaches a course on Philippine History and Society through Film at City College of San Francisco; Prof. Joel David, film critic, scholar, academic and author of books on Philippine film criticism, FACINE 23 Gawad Lingap Sining awardee.
